This race was easier than I expected it to be. I was super proud of myself for finishing and even more impressed that I kicked ass and was no worse for the wear afterwards. I was even the first one to finish out of our team! Proof that girls rock ;) Our team was amazing. Even though we finished a little staggered, everyone completed the race in once piece! Yay us!
The weather was a little hairy for the last half of the race. The temperature dropped, winds picked up and the rain POURED. Unfortunately, the ground was mostly clay, so we were running in mud pudding the last 5 miles of the course. They were even forced to close some of the best obstacles because of the thunder and lightening. Apparently, we were racing in the middle of a tornado warning. How's that for life-like conditions?! The rain caused flooding on the course and everything was even more slick than planned. By the end of the race, every single person was covered in mud. It was everywhere, I couldn't believe how messy it got. That was seriously half the fun!
I'm so glad we were given a Saturday slot. Apparently conditions were so horrible and they made the call to cancel all of Sunday. Traffic was brutal, they didn't have adequate police coverage for the area. It took us 2 hours to go 5 miles and ended up going later than our allotted time slot. The course flooded, not to mention it was a nightmare for people to get out of the parking fields. Many got trapped in the mud pudding and had to get towed out.
All in all, a great experience and I would definitely sign up for another one!
Hopefully soon they'll come out with some of the race photos, I only have the squeaky clean "before" pics!
